How You Play Borderlands 2 on PlayStation Vita
by Dan Isaksson
Gearbox Software and Sony’s love-child, Borderlands 2 on PlayStation Vita has been playtested by Sony’s Social Media Specialist, Justin Massongill, and it looks very solid.
Let’s be fair here for just a moment, nobody expected the PSV version of Borderlands 2 to be an exact copy of the console version. With that said, the visible changes are very slim, there might be blurrier textures and the draw distance might not be as impressive but overall the game looks absolutely terrific. Everything from the lovely coloring to the character styles looks up-to-date and fabulous.
On top of that, the game featuers fully customizable controls. If you wish to jump by pushing up on the directional pad, then go right ahead! Get a feel of that Nintendo 64 nostalgia! The game also offers what we saw in Uncharted: Golden Abyss, using the gyroscope when you aim down the sights you can aim with more precision and get that headshot you’ve always craved.
As for some of the less encouraging news, Massongill writes that the game hovers around 30 frames-per-second. While positively written it was also curiously careful in its wording, something that makes me worried we could be hitting 20FPS as the screen gets more and more crowded. It would also make sense for this to be the reason to another aspect of this version that makes me frown. One of the most beloved aspects of the game, its Co-Op mode won’t be featured in its full capacity here as it’ll be limited to two players instead of the original four. Massongill reports that, “while they strived to include four-player co-op in the game, they made a decision late in their development cycle to focus on providing the best two-player-only co-op experience possible.”
Borderlands 2 on PlayStation Vita will be officially released on May 13 with a PlayStation Vita bundled release on May 6. Stay in touch with B-TEN for a full review on the game.
